The latest scent from designer Vince Camuto, Ciao, is youthful, daring and sweeter than a Drew Barrymore movie. It comes on strong, but in a fun, playful way that is perfect for the first days of Spring or the high heat of summer.
The heady, sassy blast of blackberries, strawberries, bergamot and grapefruit is meant to get you out having the loudest and craziest time of your life. Ciao makes no effort to be shy at the start – so if you prefer a perfume that begins more on the demure side, you might be a little surprised. The beginning of this perfume is like an enormous tropical drink arriving at your table, with an umbrella sticking out that’s large enough to take to the beach.
But after a few minutes, those yummy, sticky strawberries all get eaten and Ciao becomes a softer, more powdered floral in the heart. The gushing fruit feel turns into a soft subtle blend of rose, lily and peony. The difference is very noticeable– you go from the height of the party to a quieter, chill-out room vibe as Ciao develops on your skin.
Part of the fun of Ciao is how this perfume changes moods from the top to the heart notes. The strawberry notes fold into the rose so seamlessly that it’s almost like two perfumes in one bottle. There’s more than just partying going on here, so if you happen to meet someone, the heart of this scent will allow you some room to get closer.
Ciao is a great perfume to wear when you want to show off your many different sides - it’s a sweet, but complex scent. The kind of perfume you want to wear when you’re ready to start up with someone new after saying for weeks to your friends that you’re so not ready to move on.
The drydown is as soft as the heart, with cashmere tones and amber floating up underneath the floral notes. Ciao becomes cocoa powder-dry as it winds down, which is exactly what you need after the super-juicy rush at the start. There’s an amaro liquor accord and a touch of sandalwood also that lends a little depth to the amber. and Ciao ends up suggesting it might be a good idea to leave the party and go grab coffee and dessert somewhere.
It leaves the skin with a warm, sweet embrace that proves that the best endings, whether they are perfumes or evenings out partying, always leave the door open for a fantastic new beginning.
