Bright Crystal description
If Versace’s Crystal Noir and Eros Femme can be thought of as two les femmes dangereuses fragrances, then Bright Crystal is the little sister whose innocence they pledged to protect. Instead of Hollywood billboard-sized gardenia (Crystal Noir), or Death by Jasmine (Eros Femme), Bright Crystal has an adorable softness to it based around a prominent peony note in the heart. This perfume is the “pearls and pink cardigan” to Crystal Noir’s jet-black mink coat and Eros Femme’s shiny leather bustier. Bright Crystal is a lovely, young, fresh fragrance for a girl who’s just now finding out her place in the world, and discovering for herself what love means.
This is a good thing. Puppy love still has its place in the world, and it deserves a perfume to celebrate it. Bright Crystal begins with pomegranate and yuzu fruit, and both are super-green, as in seasonally young. The fruit is iced over with a frosted accord, as if its preserving the top notes from evaporating too soon (or gaining too much experience in the world).
This green fruit opening is just a stuttering moment before the real fragrance blooms underneath. The peony note in Bright Crystal can’t be contained for very long, and it skips up to you in a pair of patent leather Mary Jane’s with a glowing smile and tons to talk about.
And it’s not just mall chatter – the lotus and magnolia notes in the heart add a layer of exotic depth and dissonant complexity. This perfume isn’t a silly, throwaway floral – there’s enough going on to keep you checking your wrist as it dries down.
The base is made of amber, musk and wood accords which politely end the conversation. But just like with all Meet Cutes, Bright Crystal has already made a spectacular impression. And sure, Crystal Noir and Eros Femme are more sensually vivid and experienced, but the blushing innocence of first love is the one remembered most, and this fragrance captures that once-in-a-lifetime moment perfectly.
