In with a bang, out with a whisper
I wanted to like this fragrance; it's my first from the NEST line. On first spray, it's lush with a hit of pepper that's very pleasant. The floral is warm and sweetish, almost too sweet—I was waiting for the patchouli to show up and save it, but it never came to the party. I don't get the patchouli at all, the plummy sweetness overpowers other notes. The dry down is powdery, faint, violet-y. The sillage is very weak and it has very little staying power, I would say 3-4 hours max, and after the first hour or so, the scent is so tame and soft, it's difficult to discern unless you're pressing your nose to your skin. I even tried a spray on my favorite silk scarf, which usually holds a fragrance for hours, but it doesn't cling to fabric, either. If you don't mind refreshing it every two hours, it might be an ok choice. It's not unpleasant, there's just nothing about it that stands out. I tend to like dark, sexy fragrances like Black Orchid, Addict, and Sinner, and hoped that Black Tulip would have more attitude, but it was pretty disappointing. If you like your fragrance to make a statement, don't pick this. It's pleasant, but all in all, kind of ordinary, like a yawn. The bottle promises something the fragrance doesn't deliver.
