Description
November 1695, Mexico City. Deep inside the halls of the Royal Convent of Jesus Maria, a group of reverent nuns prepares a Baroque recipe of spiced Cocoa. The brew is infused with an assortment of chilies that tempt rapture, and the air is rich with the scent of exotic spices. After centuries of safe-keeping within this closed world, their secrets are finally revealed to the senses.

Rich, old lady perfume
This has a very vintage feel to it, like a modern day successor to the decadent, rich, dense perfumes of years past. I can't imagine it going over well today.

Too much Musk over Spice...
I love Architect’s Club by Arquiste, so I thought I’d try another one of their fragrances; the notes and the description of this one seemed a mysterious and glorious combination. In truth, how can anyone desire to wear this? The musky aroma is completely overwhelming all else! Stereotypical grandmother’s or grandfather’s cologne! Very nauseating! Excruciatingly disappointed. 😞 Considering cancelling my Scentbird subscription after this one. Can’t seem to choose enough of the right scents based on notes that I love.

Spicy
It certainly is a spicy scent, quite strong at first. It's really different-if you want a mysteriously spicy scent this is for you. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it......I really smell the cocoa and cinnamon - makes it a very warm scent. Definitely a winter scent.

Strong
This is a heavy perfume. I wouldn’t have anticipated the scent by looking at the notes. I would by far describe this as having more “oriental” fragrance notes than gourmand notes, despite its delicious profile. The scent completely overpowered me. It strikes me as something that an older woman may wear, but then it may just be offering back a style of smell that has become vintage. The silage is fantastic and it never wears off, so be sure you like it.

Powdery and wearable
I love this. At first it smelled a bit more fresh and floral than I expected, but the subtly sweet vanilla and cocoa are more noticeable when on. There definitely is a floral background that keeps it from smelling like a cupcake. Or maybe it's the chili and I'm just not accustomed to it. I've been wearing this nonstop since I got it.

Not what I expected
Once this dries down, if I smell it directly, I can smell the spicy notes from the description. However, the overall scent of this perfume definitely does remind me of just standard older lady perfume. When I first sprayed it, it actually smelled so much like a perfume my mom owned in the 80's that I could picture the bottle. I'm super disappointed.

this makes me smile.
I'm really enjoying everything I've sampled from Arquiste, and I love this one – maybe it's because spicy kitchens and sweet gardens are such happy places for me. It reminds me of the best molé in town, dry roasted and ground spices.

Anima Dulcis
My woman bough me a Scentbird subscription for my birthday. She also chose my first scent. She chose Anima Dulcis as my first choice/delivery. I was happily surprised. I loved it. She loved it on me. So much so, that I am going to get it again for next month. This scent is unique & different.

Old school hollywood perfume AKA a Grandma perfume
I would say that most people under the age of 40 and definitely under the age of 30 are probably not going to be into this perfume. I personally love strong perfumes like Amouage's Lilac Love Tuberose Love, so if you like those, you may like this (there's no floral compound here, however). It is *very* strong at first, but mellows out, at least on me, within the hour. It has a lot of gourmand notes but I don't find it to be very sweet or foodie like. I read another review that described it as unsweetened chocolate, and I would agree - that definitely describes the dry down on me. A little musky and spicy, maybe kind of like unsweetened Mexican hot chocolate at dry down.

Far from being my favorite.
I really wanted to like this based on the description. This fragrance is listed as a unisex scent but I would say it's much more on the feminine side. I've always been attracted to sweet and/or fruity scents but this one missed the mark for me. I get a hint of vanilla and a powdery smell but not too much on the spice side until it begins to fade. The undertones seem very musky and outdated. It reminds me of an old Avon perfume for women over 50 (no ageism intended). The longevity lasted about 4-5 hours for me. I'm not sure exactly what to do with this fragrance but it is probably my least favorite of all the scents I've received on Scentbird.
