Because this composition is a raspberry swollen from heat, so ripe it pops, splattering its ruby juice across rose petals, and sprinkled with vanilla seeds. I read somewhere that the original idea was to take the rose and make it an actual flower bomb. But raspberry crashes the party, photobombing the whole scent construction until it steals the spotlight. In the world of fragrance, this is Arwen, from The Lord of the Rings, that elvish, ethereal, beautiful creature. And while elves may be immortal, Raspberry Ripple sadly isn’t; its magic lingers just three to four hours on skin before fading into memory. Still, what it lacks in lifespan, it makes up for in grace: Redcurrant and raspberry up front, giving way to a classical musk crescendo that balances the tart fruit with elegance. For me, a devoted musk fan, that’s reason enough to call it a favorite.
