The perfume tells the tale of a Mediterranean love story, with every note expressing the spirit of a south Italian summer. The scent, created in 2001, opens with fresh notes of Sicilian lemon, crisp apple, and sensual cedar wood. These vibrant accords are followed by heart notes of bamboo and delicate florals like jasmine and white rose and warmed by a captivating base of amber and light musk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The long-awaited male version, Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue EDT Pour Homme had the same reaction. The woody-spicy fragrance, designed with the quintessential Dolce & Gabbana man in mind, offered the same zesty freshness of the female version, but with a spicy twist. Top notes of sun-drenched Sicilian lemon, frozen grapefruit, and aromatic juniper are combined with intriguing spices like Sichuan pepper and rosemary, while the blend of musk, incense, and oak moss gives depth to the formulation.<\/p>\n\n\n

Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue: Creating a masterpiece<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the famous duo behind the Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana, worked with French perfumer Olivier Cresp to develop Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue, and the scent took more than two years to perfect!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Cresp, Light Blue\u2019s popularity is linked to its luminosity and freshness. He believes that there is something uniquely distinct about Italy and, in particular, Sicily, a place that holds so much meaning to the designers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cresp is the first to admit that as a perfumer he never really knows if a perfume is going to be a success, but Light Blue was one of his favorite creations from the start and he always believed in its power. To him, the original Light Blue is such an open and inviting fragrance, that he often wears the female version himself, and he knows quite a few other men who wear it too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the perfumer, the power of Light Blue lies in its prominent but minimalist formula. The scent is composed of only 25 ingredients, including its famous natural overdose of 10% lemon essence, giving it that Italian free-spiritedness. He describes the remaining notes in the formula as a harmony of woods, musks, amber, florals, and apple that is uniquely combined to form the deep sensuality and unique light of the fragrance. In his mind, the olfactive lightness creates the sensation of bright sunlight, crystal water, tanned skin, and intense heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key inspiration for Cresp was the image of lemon fields near the Italian seas, something fresh, juicy, and inviting, and he prolonged the naturalness of these notes with the use of innovative molecules in the formula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In keeping with the Dolce & Gabbana spirit, Cresp found inspiration in another key ingredient: love. He describes himself as a romantic and believes the concept of love appeals to everyone as it is simple yet universal. He admits that he has always been enchanted by eternal love and its timeless nature inspired him in 2001 when he created the original perfume and continues to fascinate him today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For him, there cannot be a better creative brief than translating the concept of love into a fragrance. With Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue he wanted to incorporate all the facets of love, from the initial attraction to the enduring qualities of love; from the first look, the kiss, and moments together, to milestones later in life, like anniversaries, children, and grandchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New additions to the Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue fragrance family<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, this light-hearted, yet sophisticated fragrance has inspired several limited editions as well as two highly anticipated Intense (EDP) versions launched in 2017 to form part of the permanent collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense (EDP) for her, allows the floral notes of the formulation to shine a bit more, with added amber wood for warmth, while staying true to the original heart notes of the EDT version. The male EDP version, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense, captures the spirit of the original scent while replacing some of the spice with added aquatic notes for intensified vibrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the original male and female eau de toilette create a feeling of bottled sunshine with its light yellow-colored scent, the intense Eau de parfum versions charm in a Mediterranean turquoise blue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bringing a love story to life<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Italian model Bianca Balti, a classic Mediterranean beauty, and British model David Gandy, are cast in the roles of the iconic Light Blue couple in the alluring advertisements. The retro ad campaign sees Balti, dressed in a white, 50s-style bikini, and Gandy in a matching white speedo personifying the joie de vivre of Mediterranean sensuality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign was shot in Capri and is reminiscent of Mediterranean seaside fashion days gone by when Jacqueline Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor spent their holidays on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n

Ironically, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, only found success once they returned to Dolce\u2019s Sicilian roots. Founded in 1985 with only $2,000 between them, Dolce & Gabbana established their identity in a birthplace like few other designers have been able to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After their first three collections were not received in the way they had hoped the pair found their voice in their fourth collection when they discovered their deeply embedded Sicilian DNA. One of the pieces, called the Sicilian dress by the press, personifies the brand to this day and has been reimagined in different fabrics ranging from vibrant prints to simple black.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pair explored Sicily\u2019s nooks and crannies for inspiration, turning the region\u2019s almond blossoms and lemons into opulent prints and using tiles in churches to inspire entire collections. Elements of their home country are always visible in their designs, reflected not only in the history but also in the tradition of invaluable handmade craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lavish as their creations may be, it is the emotional depth at the heart of their work that makes their designs resonate so powerfully. This quality is something that the duo likes to point out often: creativity is nothing if accompanied by love. It is not just in everything they do, but love is also a source of inspiration for them.
